Chelsea have opted against pursuing a move for Al Ittihad striker Karim Benzema, according to a report . The Blues are open to a move for a new forward this month ahead of making a big splash in the summer, when Napoli's Victor Osimhen is expected to be a top target. When report s from Saudi Arabia emerged suggesting Benzema could be on the hunt for a return to Europe, Chelsea were quickly touted as potential suitors, with many fans drooling over the prospect of a six-month loan for the 36-year-old. Moises Caicedo was the subject of an approach from Barcelona last summer before he eventually joined Chelsea, according to the midfielder's agent . Caicedo signed for the Blues for a British-record £115m fee back in August, turning down the advances of Liverpool who were first to agree a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion. Manchester United and Arsenal are both tracking the development of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee,  90min  understands. Zirkzee rose through the youth system at Bayern Munich but struggled to make the breakthrough at senior level before joining Bologna in 2022. After a slow debut year in Italy, the 22-year-old has shone with a return of seven goals and two assists in 19 Serie A appearances this year. The Dutchman's form has understandably piqued the interest of a number of top sides and sources have confirmed to  90min  that both Arsenal and United are well aware of Zirkzee's exploits for Bologna this season. It is never nice to see a player's career stall at a club where they seemingly have no future, especially when you are convinced they have the talent to shine elsewhere. A transfer window represents a chance for these players to remind everyone what they are capable of and on a more personal level, get back in their groove. We can never know exactly how a player feels about their career in a team they don't get picked for, but it can't be healthy from a mental perspective. January is an odd time to move as you simultaneously get players moving at the peak of their powers and in superb form, while you also get players that are lacking minutes and down on confidence. Cody Gakpo has revealed that Jurgen Klopp challenged him to replicate Roberto Firmino's importance to Liverpool after his January switch to Anfield. Firmino left Liverpool at the end of last season but Liverpool were well-prepared for the Brazilian's departure, having swooped to sign Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven for £35m six months earlier - beating Manchester United to his signature. Despite having spent most of his career as a winger, Gakpo has been used predominantly as a central striker since his move to Liverpool, and the 24-year-old has now revealed that was Klopp's plan for him all along.
