Chelsea make decision over Karim Benzema transfer - report

Chelsea have opted against pursuing a move for Al Ittihad striker Karim Benzema, according to a report.

The Blues are open to a move for a new forward this month ahead of making a big splash in the summer, when Napoli's Victor Osimhen is expected to be a top target.

When reports from Saudi Arabia emerged suggesting Benzema could be on the hunt for a return to Europe, Chelsea were quickly touted as potential suitors, with many fans drooling over the prospect of a six-month loan for the 36-year-old.

However, according to The Athletic, Chelsea have ruled out a move for Benzema before the January transfer window shuts.

Blues officials are keen to avoid expensive moves for older players and will instead keep their focus on recruiting young, emerging talents.

90min confirmed earlier this month that a move away from Saudi Arabia for Benzema was always viewed as unlikely this month, with league officials incredibly reluctant to part ways with one of the biggest names in their project after just six months.

Benzema has since done his best to silence the speculation himself, while his brother publicly rubbished reports of a possible return to Real Madrid for the veteran forward.

With the transfer window set to close on Thursday, Chelsea are running out of time to make major changes in the striker department.

The Blues will listen to offers for striker Armando Broja but a hefty price tag placed on the Albania international could limit his options before the end of the month.

In the summer, Chelsea hope to have more money available and will seek to end their goalscoring woes once and for all. Long-term target Osimhen, whose contract contains a release clause worth over £100m, is expected to be in their sights.
