When is the Bills - Steelers Wild Card game? New York Governor postpones NFL matchup

The NFL playoffs are one of the most early-anticipated sporting events of the year in the United States - and indeed further afield - but fans of the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers will have to wait a little bit longer to see their teams get their postseason campaigns underway.

Why has the Bills - Steelers game been postponed?

The Bills qualified as AFC East winners just ahead of the Miami Dolphins and, as second seeds, were scheduled to face the Steelers, who just sneaked in as seventh seeds. The match was initially set to be played at Highmark Stadium in New York on Sunday 14 January (kick-off at 1:00 p.m. ET) but the east coast winter weather unfortunately had other ideas.

A huge storm has been forecast to hit New York City on Saturday, bringing heavy snow, high winds and low temperatures. As a result, a travel ban for Buffalo and the whole of Eerie County is set to come into force on Saturday at 9:00 p.m. ET, which has caused New York governor Kathy Hochul to announce the game had been postponed.

New date for Wild Card game between Bills and Steelers

Hochul took to social media to reveal she had had discussions with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, with the pair, along with Bills bosses, agreeing to postpone the game until Monday 15 January (kick-off at 4:30 p.m. ET), by which time the storm is expected to have passed.

The clash between the Bills and the Steelers will now be the penultimate clash on Wild Card weekend, with the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers later on Monday.
