The San Diego Padres will host the Chicago Cubs for Game one of their four-Game set this Friday from Petco Park.

Cubs Betting Preview

Chicago comes in at 24-31 after taking two of three from Tampa Bay. The Cubs responded to being swept by Cincy by edging Tampa in a pair of nail biters, and they’ll look to build on those victories this weekend at Petco. The Chicago offense is scoring 4.12 runs per Game, while batting .257, with a .335 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.31 ERA, with a 1.27 WHIP. Seiya Suzuki has multiple hits in consecutive Games, and he leads the Cubs in batting (.293). Dansby Swanson has recorded a hit in eight of the last ten Games, and he’s up to 23 RBI, and a team-lead 28 runs scored. Nico Hoerner homered in the Game two win, and he leads the Cubs in hits (57).

Jameson Taillon (0-3, 8.04 ERA, 27 Ks) will get the ball for Chicago. The former 14-game winner still can’t get anything going for the Cubs after signing over the winter, and it’s beginning to grow alarming and targetable. Taillon gave up four runs in 4.2 innings to the Reds, and he’s allowed four runs or more in each of his last four starts.

Padres Betting Preview

San Diego moved to 26-30 after taking two of three from Miami.  The Padres opened the month with a massive victory in South Beach, and they’ll look to get closer to .500 this weekend. The San Diego offense is scoring 4.31 runs per game, while batting .220, with a .314 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.95 ERA, with a 1.27 WHIP. Xander Bogaerts recorded a hit in all three games against Miami, and he leads the Pads in hits (52). Juan Soto plated a pair of runs in the game one win over the Marlins, and he’s up to team-leads in HR (10) and RBI (26). Fernando Tatis produced four runs in the series finale to bring his splits to .253/9/19.

Michael Wacha (5-1, 3.45 ERA, 48 Ks) is set to start for San Diego. The veteran pitcher performed well in the Bronx last week, going seven full innings, while holding the Yanks to just two runs. Wacha came alive in May with a 3-0 record, five straight quality starts, and just three runs allowed total.

Chicago vs San Diego Trends

Chicago is 30-25 against the spread this season, with a 29-25-1 O/U record. San Diego is 28-28 ATS this year, with a 19-35-2 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

San Diego comes into a very manageable spot this Friday with Chicago sending Jameson Taillon to the mound. Taillon has been a troubling presence to the Cubs’ rotation since coming over this winter, and the Padres should have little trouble breaking through against him. Michael Wacha’s recent form gives us even more of a reason to back the host here, so lean on San Diego to take Game one.
